The Bible says you can begin again after broken relationships.Nothing hurts worse than the loss of intimacy with a significant other.It’s as if the world has ended.But you can begin again.Ever read the twenty-eight book of the Old Testament? Hosea is its name.The writer was a prophet whose wife left him and became a prostitute.Out of the depths of his hurt,God told him something like this:“Now you know how I feel.The ones I love keep on becoming whores,too.They sell themselves to other gods.But I keep on buying them back.”
Hosea goes and pays to redeem his wife.He feels the same way about Gomer as God feels about Israel:“How can I give you up? How can I abandon you?My heart will not let do it! My love for you is to strong” (Hosea 11:8, [author’s translation])…You can begin again after moral failure…after you’ve done the very thing you said you’d never do….After you’ve compromised the last shred of your integrity.Ever read in the Bible the story of David’s moral wreck? I call it Bathshebagate.It involved hanky-panky, adultery, and even the murder of Bathsheba’s husband.The postman rang twice and his name was Nathan the prophet. David was exposed.His past righteousness and achievements were nullified.
But now read psalm 51.David did the only thing you can do when you are caught red handed.He confessed and asked for a new heart to replace the old one…a spiritual and moral transplant.
Bathsheba was pregnant.She lost the baby.But out of the ashes of moral collapse,another son was born.His name was Solomon…
